parchment paper and wax paper

Parchment paper is paper that is treated with silicone. The silicone coating makes the paper non-stick, so food doesn’t stick when you’re cooking or baking. This is really helpful! Add to that that parchment paper is heat-resistant, which means you can use it safely in the oven without the risk that it’ll burn.

Wax paper, on the other hand, is covered with a waxy layer. This wax gives it a glossy appearance, however it also makes wax paper non-heat resisitant. Thus, you should always avoid using wax paper in the oven. If you do, the wax can drip and get everywhere. Instead, wax paper is most useful for keeping food fresh in the fridge or on the go, such as to wrap, sandwich or on-the-go snack. It protects food but not for cooking.

However, if you choose to use parchment paper for baking or cooking there are some tips to keep in mind. First of all, preheat your oven before adding parchment paper to it. Using preheat allows the paper not to burn when getting hot.

Another great tip is to line your baking sheets in the kitchen if you bake a lot of cookies (or any other treat) with parchment paper. This will prevent the cookies from sticking when you place the parchment paper onto the baking sheet. Which does make it far easier to remove the cookies from the sheet once baked! It also can make your cleanup much easier.
